Macular Degeneration

In January of 2005, bleeding blood vessels in my retina impacted my vision. I went to the VA Hospital in Ft. Wayne and Indianapolis for treatment. In August of 2005, the VA declared me Legally Blind. As an Electrical Contractor the inability to drive greatly impacted my business. I had to hire someone to drive me to the various construction sites to check on job progress. After talking to the Low Vision Center, I was told to check with the Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation Services to see if they could help be get my bioptic license training.

In August of 2007, I had my initial examination by Dr. Laura Windsor and was accepted to start my training in bioptic driving. I completed my training in December of 2007. Eva Richardville was my instructor and she did an excellent job. On June 6, 2008, I passed my drivers test and was given a license. In the past ten months since receiving my license I have driven approximately 10,000 miles with no problems.

Without a drivers license, it is doubtful if my business would still be open. I would like to thank you for all your help in the past and in the future!
