South Carolina Bioptic Law

The use of bioptic telescopes to meet the acuity standards is permitted.

(a) has improved visual acuity of at least 20/40 in the better functioning eye when looking through the carrier lens of a bioptic telescopic aid

(b) has a binocular horizontal visual field diameter of not less than 120 degrees and a vertical field of not less than 80 degrees without using the bioptic telescopic aid

(c) has a binocular horizontal visual field diameter of not less than 120 degrees and a vertical field of not less than 80 degrees with If the applicant is monocular, the horizontal visual field must be at least seventy degrees temporally and thirty-five degrees nasally

(d) has signed permission from an optometrist or ophthalmologist to apply for driving privileges with a bioptic telescope

(e) has successfully completed an In-Clinic Pre-Driver Bioptic Evaluation and Training Program as described in subsection (C) that was proctored

(g)driving only during daylight hours
